August 1st

Today MTV is celebrating it's 30th anniversary. On August 1, 1981, at 12:01 a.m., MTV launched with the words "Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll," spoken by John Lack, and played over footage of the first Space Shuttle launch countdown of Columbia and of the launch of Apollo 11. The first music video to be played on the network was The Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star". The second video was Pat Benatar's "You Better Run". This made her the first female artist to appear on the network and made her guitarist/boyfriend/soon to be husband, the first guitarist to appear on the network. MTV became a huge success and played music videos over the decade and they broke the color barrier. Throughout the early-mid 2000s music videos weren't played as often and in 2010 MTV: Music Television was dropped and now it is just called MTV. Reality shows like Jersey Shore and Teen Mom (What the fucking hell??!?) are some of the most watched shows on the network. It's sad the music really doesn't appear anymore but over time things change and we can't always hold onto the past. So happy anniversary but I hate your network now. Bring back the music videos! Personal ranting here. :)

Oh by the way today is also the 40th anniversary of George Harrison's Concert for Bangladesh. Download the music from iTunes. RIP Georgie! Thanks for everything. Love ya! Will do post about it maybe on this blog or my other blog.

What a Drag it is Getting Old, Kids are Different Today

Happy belated birthday to Mick Jagger who turned 68 yesterday. He's still rocking hard and has even formed a new group, Super Heavy. He lived the life of sex, drugs, and rock and roll and survived. He's never slowing down even though he sang, "What a drag it is getting old". So he may be be 68 but once a rocker always a rocker.

Hello Goodbye

Hi everyone, how are you doing? Sorry I haven't posted in a long time but the truth is the blog that I started long ago that I loved and had so much fun with doesn't exist anymore. I used to post almost everyday. I found joy in learning about the topics and finding amazing pictures on the past. But eventually I lost interest. The 70s appealed to be greatly while the 80s lost its charm. The MTV decade became too poppy and flashy for me. I listened to the music so much that I became bored and tired of it. I used to think the 80s was the greatest time to be alive with new music, the invention of MTV, and the people that came out. But soon I learned it wasn't all that great. No decade is. In every decade there's some kind of problem but we learn to work through and have fun. I came back to the present ready to live life. I disappeared from the blogging world and thought I wouldn't come back.

One day I was on the web looking up Fleetwood Mac and I starting reading about Mick Fleetwood. I clicked on the link to read about his first wife the beautiful, Jenny Boyd. I found out she was a successful model in the Sixties and her sister was Pattie Boyd. At the time I had no idea who Pattie Boyd was. Pattie was a very successful model of the Sixties, photographer, wife of legendary Beatle George Harrison, and wife to Eric Clapton as well. I read more about Pattie and fell in love with her life story. Her story and life was extremely appealing to me and when I learned that she had published a book about her life I quickly went down to the library to check it out. In her book she talked about the Sixties and I fell in love. (again) The Sixties was an amazing time full of great people, great music, and great fashion. I started listening to the music, learning about the culture, and learning about the people. It was all soo fascinating. I became a huge fan of The Beatles. One day I decided to start a new blog about the Sixties and Seventies more Sixties though. I really love my new blog and have so much fun with it. I've met amazing people and I'm having a great time. So I have now come to the decision to end my blog. I'm very proud of the work I did but it's just not that fun anymore. I will post at least ten more times before I leave. Thank you to all my followers sorry to didn't give you consistent work. I think the eighties will always have a special place in my heart but currently the seventies and sixties are what I'm about. So thanks again to everyone. It's almost time to say goodbye.

Queen

Queen was a British rock band formed in London in 1971. Comprised of Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), John Deacon (bass guitar), and Roger Taylor (drums, vocals) they were a top music act of the 70s and 80s. Queen's early work was heavily influenced by progressive rock during the mid-1970s. In the 1980s the band ventured into more radio-friendly material. This brought them greater commercial success. With hits like Bohemian Rhapsody, Under Pressure (My favorite Queen song), We Will Rock You, and many more they became one of music's most influential rock groups. Unfortunately Freddie died of bronchopneumonia, a complication of AIDS. He was one of thee greatest singers of all time and will always be missed. John Deacon retired in 1997. The surviving members (Brian May and Roger Taylor) have frequently performed together. They have also collaborated with Paul Rogers under the name Queen + Paul Rodgers which lasted from 2004 to 2009. But personally I think no one can replace Freddie (truly they weren't but still)! Queen's music will forever live on and will always be a great band. RIP Freddie and Go Queen!

Wings at the Speed of Sound

I just finished watching Wingspan the Wings TV documentary done in 2001. They talked about when Wings at the Speed of Sound was released and madness happened. When Wings played in Seattle there were sooooo many people it scared me! They were all running around and they were happy to be going to the concert. It was pretty epic and I wish I could have been there. Really awesome time. And of course in 1976 there were soo many other acts that people would die for to see. So if you went to any concerts during the 70s i applaud. NICE JOB!
