Bob Marley
The man of peace and the king of reggae brought music to a new level when he appeared on the music scene. Bob Marley was born in the small village of Nine Mile in Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica as Robert Nesta Marley. He was brought in a two room shack by his mother, Cedella. When Bob was ten he and his mother moved to Kingston to hopefully find a better life. With little money they were forced to settle in Trenchtown. A place full of disease and and gangs. There Bob met Bunny Wailer and they started to jam on homemade instruments. They started to jam with Joe Higgs a local singer and devout Rastafarian. Bob and Bunny perfected their sound by playing on the streets of Trenchtown. There they met Peter Tosh. The band released the single, "Simmer Down." It became a number one single on the Jamaican billboard. Rita Anderson worked her way into the studio and Bob and her started to see each other. They then got married on February 10, 1966. Soon after the wedding Bob traveled to the United States. He returned to Jamaica with 700 bucks. He a woke to a new religion, Rastafari. Part of the religion is smoking. Fast forward a bit and Bob Marley breaks up with the wailers and goes on his own way. Being famous came with prices. He was scheduled to play a free concert organized by the Jamaican Prime Minister Michael Manley in an attempt to ease tension between two warring political groups. To some this meant Marley was in favor for Manley to win. Marley, his wife, and manager Don Taylor were wounded in an assault by unknown gunmen inside Marley's home two days before the event. But Marley played the concert with a smile. His days were spreading his message of peace and he was happy to do so. But he was soon told he had malignant melanoma. Despite this he kept on playing But soon the cancer spread to his lungs and brain. He died on the morning of 11 May 1981, at the age of 36. He left a great legacy that people celebrate everyday.
